HERCULES AND-THE CARTER

HERCULES AND-THE CARTER

Once there was a farmer. He was very lazy. He always depended on others. One day, he loaded with bags of wheat. Due to recent rains, the road was muddy and slippery. The cart got stuck fast in the mud. The farmer goaded the bullocks but the cart would not move an inch. He himself did not get down. He shouted for help. He requested every passer-by to help him; but none cared to help him. Hercules, god of strength, passed that way. The farmer requested him for help. Hercules said to him, "Why do not you help yourself? Put your own shoulder to the wheel of the cart and pull it. I will not help you if you do not try yourself". The farmer acted on his advice. Hercules also extended him a helping hand. The cart was soon out of the mud. The farmer felt happy. He thanked Hercules and cheerfully wended his way to the market.

Moral: Self-help is the best help.
