LORD BUDDHA AND SORROWING MOTHER

Once a poor woman had lost her only son. She was overwhelmed with grief. She came to the great saint and prayed to him "O lord restore my dead son to life" Buddha was touched by the great sorrow of the woman. He told her that there was only one medicine which would revive her son. He asked her to bring a handful of mustard seeds from a house where death had never entered. The sorrowing mother went from door to door for a handful of mustard seeds, but found no such house anywhere. One said "I have lost my brother", another said "My mother died last year". The woman came to Buddha with a heavy heart. She told him the result of her quest. Then Lord Buddha said to her "Then you see, death is common to all and you should not think much of your sorrow."

Moral : Death is common to all.
